Yesterday I painted the accent wall in my studio/office. This room was the hardest to decide on since as it’s where I’ll spend the most time. Originally I planned to use a putty-dove color from Farrow & Ball (Calamine). I did a color consultation not long ago & chose that for my client’s guest room and fell so completely in love with it. But once I put the sample in my own space I realized it wasn’t right for the room’s purpose or lighting. I’d toyed with doing one wall in our kitchen a ghostly grey pistachio hue so I had already painted a few large chips. On a whim I put the samples up in the studio for a few weeks and was completely surprised. Every time I went in there I loved the color range and what it evoked. In the kitchen it made me feel anxious. But in my work & design space it was perfect- a gently energizing shadow. It took me long enough, but I am thrilled with my final decision (Benjamin Moore’s Cucumber, the wallcolor in the pic). I’ll definitely be more understanding when a client can’t color commit right away! The closest runners up- Martha Stewart’s Aurora Borealis on the right and the left is Valspar’s Timid Absinthe.
